Hail to the Queen: Thoughts on Ms. Universe 2015

9:20 PM

I woke up yesterday morning and  I thought of watching Ms. Universe pageant and expected a just so-so pageant program... I was wrong.

I was in for two major surprises  that made the program exciting and memorable to watch.

First and foremost, we got the crown! Oh yeah!. Our very own Ms. Universe in my (our) lifetime? Insane. Forty-two years of crown-less drought is too long. And yet here it is. Unbelievable.
Our bet, Pia Wurtzbach a half German- half Mindanaoan gracefully and fiercely fought one category after another. And boy did she fought hard. She walked ever so gracefully in evening gowns and swimsuit wowing the judges. As judge Perez Hilton said in his podcast, he did take a second look on Pia, he thought it'll be a yawn walk but when she emerged, she was fierce!

And during the Q and A, though the first question is a bit controversial, a kind of question fitted for a presidential candicate and not a Miss U aspirant. I mean, what's with the political question. I thought that was unfair... but Queen P was so poised and gamely answered the question. In my opinion, I thought she intelligently avoided the real issue of the Visiting Forces Agreement betwene the US and The Philippines by implying friendly and welcoming.... which is by the way what we are known for.

Her last moment to shine was in the final interview portion. All candidate were given the same question top answer. And this is where she stands out! She answered with poise and directness that sealed her fate.
.
The last five minutes  was a monumental blunder. it was hard to watch.

I was simply watching and I accepted it right away that, yep it is not for us again.
But two minutes after Ms. Colombia was announced as Ms. Universe, Steve Harvey emerged on stage again, making an apology.... WHAT THE?!

The next few moment was bitter and sweet. Hard to watch Ms, Colombia stripped of the crown. I am so lucky not to be on that stage. But I was utterly proud that Pia being the gracious queen, just stood in the sidelights waiting. All of the rest of the happenings will forever be remembered in history.

After all the smoke has cleared... in the end we have a new Queen, a RIGHTFUL  and DESERVING one. All this time she has remained gracious and quiet and careful.
Beautiful, intelligent, compassionate and graceful. Fitting representative of all the women in the world.

A crown is simply a tangible symbol of power, but even without a crown a TRUE  Queen CAN shine because her power is deep within her heart and soul.

Thank you Pia for representing the country well and for the honor you brought us.
